Renowned horseman, Albert Adams, a legend in horse breeding, founded Winterwood Farm in 1974. Born in Ontario, Canada he pursued his dream of working at a major Bluegrass nursery when he worked under Francis McKinzie at Almahurst Farm. McKinzie was a perfectionist whose horsemanship earned him admission as an Immortal in the Hall of Fame of Goshen and he taught Albert everything he knew. After McKinzie moved on, Almahurst was left in Albert’s capable care. When he founded Winterwood Farm in 1974, Albert used the expertise of his years in the business to make it one of the region’s premier breeding farms for standard bred racehorses.
Today, Albert and his son Mark lend their combined 90 years of experience to make Winterwood a showpiece facility with a stellar reputation. Mark Adams attended Colorado State University to study in equine science and animal husbandry. Upon completing studies there, he traveled to New Jersey to Almahurst Stud, where he put his knowledge to work collecting stallions and breeding over 500 mares annually. Today, Mark works closely with his team of professionals at Winterwood Farm as well as regional veterinary consultants, to give each and every horse on the property the best care possible.
